Link Between Smoking and Drinking -- An Update

Why do so many people who smoke, drink as well? A new study in JAMA suggests a genetic link between nicotine and alcohol addiction. More than 3,300 male twins were studied. The authors found that those addicted to alcohol also were smokers and hence addicted to nicotine.

This is an important message for teens who have yet to try either. Look carefully at the behavior of your parents. If they smoke and are addicted to alcohol, the same fate may await you if you begin to abuse either. Just don't start!
